ALPS MOBILITY II

Title | ALPS MOBILITY II – Alpine Pearls | | Priority,Measure | 2.2 | | Lead Partner | Federal Ministry for Agriculture and Forestry, Environment and Water Management | | Lead Partner Country | Austria | | Project Website | http://www.alpsmobility.net | | Duration | 05/2003 - 09/2006 | | Date of Approval | 09-04-2003 | | Approx. Total Budget in € | 3.216.960 € | | ERDF in € | 1.496.680 € | | Project Summary | Tourism and mobility entail each other and are economic and regional key factors on the one hand, but on the other have considerable impacts on environment and health. Up to date, measures were mostly taken on a national or sectoral level and were too one-dimensional. Therefore trans-sectoral measures and transalpine co-operations are necessary. Combinations of measures, combining the protection of the ecologically sensitive Alpine Space with its high environment quality and beautiful landscape, the creation of an efficient, intermodal environmentally sustainable transport system for travel and leisure traffic and the development of new, innovative eco-oriented offers in high-quality tourism in the sense of win-win-strategies. | | Project Objectives | The focus of the project I „Alps Mobility II - ALPINE PEARLS“ therefore is the creation of innovative eco-tourism offers „Alpine Pearls“, combining the tourist points of interest with the advantages of Sustainable Mobility with environmentally sound transport means. The eco-tourism package „Alpine Pearls“not only links tourism and mobility, but particularly links the participating model regions with each other in a transalpine sense. The objective is the realization of a travel package through the Alps, using only environmentally sound transport means, like railway, busses, bicycles, zero-emission-vehicles, and horses or walking. Each partner region will be a „Pearl“itself, thus fulfilling certain mobility and tourism standards in the sense of sustainability according to a fixed criteria catalogue. Traveling sustainably should guide visitors on routes with the most beautiful scenery, present interesting mobility adventures and guarantee perfect information (e.g. with GPS-based hand-held computers for travelers), and at the same time should offer high comfort e.g. through luggage transport. The project centers around the planning and implementation of a combi-package consisting of eco-tourism and eco-mobility in Alpine tourist regions. The work will consist of: - a feasibility study, fixing the details for transalpine implementation, - planning of a sustainable travel chain to the Alps and between the regions and their partner regions (the "string of pearls") as well as the - development and improvement of mobility services and infrastructural conditions for the environmentally sound travel chain between the resorts („Pearls“) and their surrounding regions - implementation of transalpine pilot actions - development and implementation of a common PR and marketing concept | | Project Achievements | In the first phase of the project, the partners elaborated a detailled implementation plan for the further development of the Alpine Pearls offer, including a criteria catalogue for mobility and tourism standards in the Alpine Pearls communities. Meanwhile all kinds of activities have been started (e.g. infrastructural measures, improvement of the public transport connections between the Pearls, marketing plans...), so that the criteria will be fulfilled by the end of the project. Furthermore, the process of implementing the umbrella organization „Alpine Pearls“ has been started. | | Project Result Files | view | | EU Project Partners | Bayerisches Staatsministerium für Umwelt, Gesundheit und Verbraucherschutz (Germany) Bundesministerium für Verkehr, Innovation und Technologie (Austria) Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Arbeit (Austria) Commune de Morzine-Avoriaz (France) Commune de Valloire (France) Commune des Gets (France) Gemeinde Bad Hofgastein (Austria) Gemeinde Werfenweng (Austria) Provincia Autonoma Bolzano (Italy) Provincia di Belluno (Italy) Regione Autonoma Friuli-Venezia-Giulia (Italy) Regione Autonoma Valle d'Aosta (Italy) Salzburger Landesregierung (Austria) Zukunft Biosphäre GmbH (Germany) | | Non-EU Project Partners | Interlaken Tourismus (Switzerland) Kanton Graubünden (Switzerland) Kanton Zürich (Switzerland) | | Contact Person | Thaler, Robert | |
