Project Summary | Mobility in the Alpine Space has specific constraints. It is characterised by strong seasonal variations, partitions between different kinds of mobility (inhabitants, tourists, season workers) and strong spatial constraints (limited space available and concentrated infrastructures, fragile spaces to be preserved…) The present mobility offer in the Alps lacks coherence and is not enough targeted to the specific needs of its users and to the spaces where it is operating. This mobility offer relies all too often on individual motorised transport and is liable to generate social and spatial inequalities. Facing similar issues throughout the Alpine Space, the project partners are willing to develop a more sustainable and coherent mobility through adapted common answers.
Project Objectives | The objectives of the project are therefore to increase the uses of clean / soft / collective transports and to reduce individual motorized mobility through improved information and services to transport users as well as innovative transport offers and improved access to collective mobility. The project contributes to better spatial organisation in the Alpine Space at both local and regional levels and preserves the Alpine environment. It contributes to increasing the attractiveness of the Alpine Space for its inhabitants as well as for tourists.
Project Achievements | Experimentations and pilot actions develop innovative and sustainable transport offers . These actions can be focused on given scales (local, inter-urban…) or given groups (young people, workers, tourists...). Good practises and common solutions contribute to an Alpine and European approach of sustainable mobility that will be materialised through a Charter on sustainable mobility in the Alps. The project promotes a balanced spatial organisation and a sustainable spatial development of the Alpine Space through efficient transport systems : it reinforces the attractiveness of Alpine territories, it develops cleaner mobility through soft mobilities and collective transports and also reinforces spatial and social inclusion through the promotion of efficient collective transports.
